Pediatric Hearing Evaluations

Our Albany and Saratoga Springs locations are fully equipped to perform Pediatric Hearing Evaluations. Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA) and/or Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA) will be used to obtain hearing threshold information.

Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA) evaluates the hearing of children of 6 months to 2 years. Sound of varying intensity are presented to one of two speakers as the child sits on a parent’s lap. If sound is heard by the child, he or she turns their head towards the appropriate speaker and is rewarded by visual stimulus, such as an animated toy or flashing light.

Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA) evaluates the hearing of children 2-5 years in age. The child is conditioned to drop a play block in a bucket in response to hearing a sound. This technique is used to identify ear specific and frequency specific hearing thresholds.

The purpose of this hearing assessment and/or demonstration is for hearing wellness and to determine if the consumer may benefit from using hearing aids, which may include selling and fitting hearing aids. Products demonstrated may differ from products sold. Assessment conclusion is not a medical diagnosis and further testing may be required to diagnose hearing loss. The use of any hearing aid may not fully restore normal hearing and does not prevent future hearing loss. Hearing instruments may not meet the needs of all hearing-impaired individuals.
