Videonystagmography (VNG)

This is a comprehensive test that will evaluate the entire vestibular system (peripheral and central). It is used to assist with differential diagnosis of the most common forms of vestibular dysfunction, which may include BPPV, a unilateral or bilateral peripheral weakness, and central vestibular involvement.

The VNG test consists of three test sections: Ocular Motor Testing, Positional Testing, and Caloric Testing. During all three test sections, the patient is required to wear test goggles that record eye movements via infrared cameras. The eye movements recorded are used to determine if and what type of vestibular dysfunction is present.
